Public engagement
Public engagement in Haifa and beyond
I direct two centers at the University of Haifa. Here are some of the programs and public conversations in which I have been involved.
In practice
The work in practice
At the Haifa Laboratory for Religious Studies, the Interfaith Ambassadors M.A. program brings religious leaders into graduate study and projects they initiate in their own communities. The Haifa Multi-Faith Forum convenes religious leaders over time and has an advisory role with the mayor.
The Laboratory has also worked on local forums in Ramle and Acre and programs in schools. The Frieze Center, which I founded in 2025, adds university courses, a research group, mediation training, and work with public institutions.
Areas of engagement
Selected work
Interfaith Ambassadors
Two cohorts have completed the program. A third began in 2026, with Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Druze, and Ahmadi participants.
Haifa Multi-Faith Forum
Religious leaders meet regularly in Haifa, including through the advisory group to the mayor. The Laboratory has also worked in Ramle and Acre.
Schools and mediation
HLRS works with educators on religious diversity in schools. The Frieze Center is developing a twelve-session mediation course.
Conversations in public
A four-part KAN series explored religious life from the Middle Ages to today. Recent coverage includes interviews and features in Church Times and Jewish News, a conversation with The Catalyst, and an NPR report on interfaith work in Haifa.
